Julian's background ranges from schooling in Paris and London to running Health and Beauty services in association with the Pineapple Dance Studio in London.

At the age of 30 he returned to Garden Design studying at Sparsholt College in Hampshire in the 1990's and was awarded their prestigious Student of the Year award.

Over the following years he learned the art of garden design in a practical capacity as a landscaper, nurseryman and head gardener.

In 2002 he attended the Duchy College at Rosewarne and gained an FdSc in Horticulture. With this he continued designing as well as teaching horticulture to young adults with special needs.

In 2008 he returned to Hampshire to hone his design skills with Hambrooks Landscapes working in design and marketing through fifteen different garden centre outlets.

He designed a different garden, in two and three dimensional sketches, daily over a period of five years. This is where he honed his unique perception and interpretation of garden space.

Early in 2013 he opened the Design Shop at Carnon Downs and has been developing ever since.

Julian can offer a free initial consultation.

From this consultation, on agreement with the client,
  • Conceptual sketches are made in both 2 and 3 dimensions.
  • A measured plan including materials advice and planting plan.
  • Source and supply.

The exploration of garden space design is a continual process, the plans and the time taken to draw them are developed through a process based around garden history and presentation of the garden.

Throughout garden design history, the functions have mirrored the greater world surround. Switching from practical in times of need to opulent pleasure in more affluent times.

Currently there is a gentle mix of the two, including the long running debate between formal and wild gardens. In time past the wilderness outside the garden insisted that the garden be tamed and somewhat formal. Now in more recent times of construction, it is important to include the wildlife element within the garden itself.

Julian uses these elements plus the unique needs of the individual client to help turn your dreams into reality.

Turn Your Dreams Into Reality

A testament to excellence. My requirements of more wildlife in the garden together with sympathetic design have been met.
